Being rejected sucks.
Most of us guys have been there on the dance floor in grade 7 where the cutest person in the class didn't take you up on your offer to slow dance. Was it because you stank? Or maybe because she wanted a guy that had already hit puberty?
In the artist field, being rejected for a gig, show, or audition also doesn't exactly send tinglies up your spine.
I just had a conversation with an amazing performer who was rejected from playing at a major festival because he didn't have an official website...all he had were Myspace, Reverbnation, and Facebook pages. According to the booking police at this festival, if you don't have an official website with your own domain name (ie. www.sayveeruleslives.com) it shows that you're not willing to put energy & money into what you're doing. Basically, the result is that people (booking agencies, clients, bla bla bla) don't take you very seriously and you will actually miss out on a lot of opportunities to show off how cool you are.
Would you show up on a first date wearing a shirt with a picture of your date's mom on the front and then take a nice stroll through the hospital ER where you would end up eating a nice bowl of jello at the cafeteria for supper? If you would, I would love to meet you.
Make a good impression. Do the same with your website. Send everyone to the same, central hub (your official site) and then let people go to your other sites from there. Nobody likes the ER.
